March News

Tuesday 29th March
Craig y Don Community Centre

We have an important talk by Richard Ball on Asian hornets. These pests found their way from China to south west France five or six years ago, and have now spread 400km up to the Channel ports. These are no ordinary hornets. They just love eating honeybees, and a few of them will wreck your colony very quickly. See this Daily Telegraph article. Their next stop is the UK. We all need to be prepared. (They can also give you a nasty sting on the b*m, and that will really spoil your day).

Richard Ball is the former head of the Bee Inspection Service for England and Wales, and we are delighted that he is visiting us from Devon. Do try to attend.  Click here for directions.

Tea/coffee at 7.20pm, meeting starts at 7.40pm. Free entry, visitors welcome, collection towards Bees for Development.

Here are some pictures of Asian hornets attacking a hive of bees, and here is a picture and article on Asian hornets.
